Electrophotocatalytic wather disinfection
Štefancová, Eva ; Drbohlavová, Jana (referee) ; Veselá, Mária (advisor)
This work focuses on the photoelectrocatalytic water disinfection by applying electrical voltage onto an electrode system. Working electrode consist of electrical conductor covered by thin film TiO2, because of its very important photoactivity. Disinfection effect was monitored on Gram-negative bacteria E. coli under different conditions. Inactivation of bacterial cells in contamined aqueous solution, first experiment was observed only with presence of oxygen, later reactor was irradiated with UV-A compact blacklight with intensity of 4 mW• m-2 or electrical voltage of 1V was applied to electrode. By adding both effects at the same time I was verifying photoelectrocatalysic water disinfection on chosen microorganism.
Kinetics of photocatalytic and electrophotocatalytic degradation of swimming pool water model pollutants
Morávková, Eva ; Cihlář, Jaroslav (referee) ; Veselý, Michal (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with the coating and printing of thin layers based on nanoparticles of titanium dioxide and organosilica binder on various substrates. The influence of the ratio of the both components on the activity of the prepared immobilized layers was studied. Five compositions with different ratios of TiO2 and binder were prepared. The work focuses mainly on the study of photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic properties of prepared layers. It was also important to characterize the mechanical properties of the layer such as hardness or adhesion. Both photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic activity were determined by monitoring the degradation of the model pollutants in aqueous solutions. The dye Acid Orange 7 and UV filter 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone were used in conjunction with UV/VIS spectroscopy or high performance liquid chromatography techniques. Both photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic activity were expressed using kinetic characteristics.
Kinetics of electrophotocatalytic water disinfection
Štefancová, Eva ; Zita, Jiří (referee) ; Veselá, Mária (advisor)
In this work, electrophotocatalytic disinfection on selected microorganisms was verified. The electrophotocatalytic system allows the application of electrical bias to the photoanode coated with a titanium dioxide layer. The disinfecting effect was observed on E.coli and C.glabrata in aqueous solution. The effect of radiation intensity on electrophotocatalysis and selected optimal conditions for further experiments was observed in the E. coli organism. Photocatalytic disinfection was carried out under suitable conditions on C.glabrata yeast and the effect of sodium sulfate electrolyte on electrophotocatalytic disinfection was observed in this case.

Photoelectrochemical Oxidation of Carboxylic Acids on the Sol-Gel Thin TiO2 Layer Electrode
Morozová, Magdalena ; Klusoň, Petr ; Krýsa, Josef ; Šolcová, Olga
Heterogeneous photocatalysis is based on the reaction between the light excitated semiconductor and oxidizable compound adsorbed on the catalytic surface. This work reports the photoelectrocatalytic oxidation characteristics of carboxylic acids on the TiO2 sol-gel thin-film electrode by using electrochemical techniques. The influence of the thickness of the films on photoactivity and the various concentrations of oxalic, formic and acetic acid in the supporting electrolyte were investigated. The effect of the used mono- and dicarboxylic acids on the electrode behaviour for possible application as sensors has been also studied. The surface characteristics of TiO2 films were determined by XRD, SEM and AFM analyses and the photoexcitation properties of nanoparticulate layer electrode were determined by cyclic and linear voltammetry, amperometry and open circuit potential (OCP).
